Since its inception in 1998, Graduate Division of the Sungkyunkwan Unviersity School of Medicine (SKKUSM) has provided a stimulating environment in which students acquire the knowledge and skills to attain the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and become independent scientists holding academic and industrial positions worldwide.

If you are interested in obtaining training that will prepare you for an exciting career in the ever-expanding world of biomedical research, our Graduate Division is the place for you. The Division provides an extremely collegial and mentored training experience where you will work personally with advisers at the cutting-edge of disease-relevant research in areas as diverse as immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, genomics/proteomics, cancer biology, and others. A great feature of the graduate program is its breadth. SKKUSM graduate students often undertake interdisciplinary projects which draw on the scientific expertise of faculty in the basic science and clinical departments. Our faculty and senior graduate students publish widely and their work is often cited both in professional journals and in the news.

Overview of the PhD Program

The Graduate program begins in the end of February with an orientation period which will acquaint you with your fellow graduate students, the institution, its facilities, and the highlights of life in Suwon. You will then begin course work and a series of laboratory rotations if you want. The laboratory rotations serve to introduce you to a wide variety of scientific problems and the types of approaches used to investigate these problems. These laboratory rotations will help you to identify a laboratory in which to carry out your dissertation research under the mentorship of a faculty advisor. Once a thesis laboratory is chosen, you start your thesis research with you mentor.
