The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology consists of 15
faculty members who major in various basic medical science fields
(Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology,
and Parasitology). The Department performs important educational
roles for medical and post-graduate students. First, the department
is in charge of lecture courses for preclinical medical students,
which include the Introduction to life science 2, 3, and 4. These
lecture courses encompass various topics including metabolism, signal
transduction, molecular genetics, immunology, cell biology, pharmacology,
oncology, basic pathology, microbiology, and parasitology. Secondly,
the members also participate actively in the PBL curriculum. The
Department is making efforts to build up the scientific basis in
the PBL courses and provide supplementary lectures and laboratories.
Thirdly, the faculty members participate as the core group in the
post-graduate program to support students who want to be basic medical
scientists. All faculty members are actively involved in research
activities which are reflected in the publication list. Briefly,
the main research interests of the faculty members are as following;
Dr. Ahn J.H.: Gene regulation and DNA replication of herpesviruses
Dr. Bae C.D.; rho family G protein signaling pathway, regulation
of phospholipase D
Dr. Cho S. Y.; Evaluation of antigenic proteins in serodiagnosis
of helminthic disease
Dr. Hahn M-J.; Cell survival signaling through growth factors
Dr. Han T.H.; transcriptional regulation in hematopoietic cell differentiation,
pathogenesis of acute promyelocytic leukemia
Dr. Kim K.K.; Structural studies of biologically important proteins
such as chaperones and receptors
Dr. Kim S.T.; DNA damage, checkpoint and DNA repair, cancer
Dr. Kim T.J.; signal transduction of B cell receptor and the transport
of transmembrane
Dr. Kong Y.; Role of antigenic proteins in pathogenesis of helminthic
diseases
Dr. Lee H.W.; Molecular genetic analysis of genes related to cancer
and senescence using in vitro and in vivo models
Dr. Lee Y.S.; Oxidative stress and signal transduction
Dr. Park J-B; genes in gastric carcinogenesis, activation of signaling
system in neuronal tissues
Dr. Ro J.Y.; Signal transduction in mast cells
Dr. Shin J; mechanism for intracytoplasmic inclusion formation,
balancing signals for cell survival and death
