The Department of Physiology has been establilshed at 1997 and now five faculty members are
working in the new Medical Science Building at Suwon. Like
other departments for basic medical sciences, research and education
are two main important activities.
For the education of medical students, all members take part in
the main lectures, the practices of physiology, and the tutorship
of PBL. The lectures and practices for general physiology are performed
in the course of the Introduction to Life Sciences. The lectures for
organ physiology are delivered in the corresponding courses of the PBL.
Currently, there are many actively working graduate students and research assistants
in the Department of Physiology. All the graduate students and assistants have
to do their own experiments relating to their leading staffs and regularly present
the work-in-progresses and also join in some of the journal clubs voluntarily.
The main stream of our research activites can be summarized as 'understanding
the cellular & molecular mechanisms of the body functions at
the cellular levels. Prof. Uhm gently leads the whole physiology department and
is a Dean of the School.
Dr. Chung's main interests are physiology and pathophysiology
of the brain cells, i.e. both neuronal cells and microglia.
Dr. Park is working in the field of intracellular
Ca2+ signalling in the polarized cells such as pancratic acinar and neuronal cells.
Dr. Kang is invesitigating the characteristics of ion channels and membrane transporters in cardiac cells.
Dr. Kim is investigating roles of K+ channels in nonexcitable cells and exocrine/endocrine secretion.
Recent detailed achievements of our department can be found above in the related links
of each staff.
