Current Research Interest: Laboratory of Cell Physiology

Main research interest of our laboratory include 1) Role of K+ channels in non-excitable cells and, 2) Exocytosis and its regulation in neuroendocrine cells. K+ channels in the exocrine gland (pancreas, salivary gland) and B-lymphocytes are currently investigated by using patch clamp techniques combined with fura-2 ratiometry for Ca2+ measurement. For the study of exocytosis, prostatic neuroendocrine cells are newly started to be investigated and will be compared with classical type of neuroendocrine cells (e.g. adrenal chromaffin cells). Both the capacitance measurement combined with patch clamp and the amperometry technique will be applied to single neuroendocrine cells. In addition, we are currently carrying out many projects in collaboration with other groups to reveal the functional changes of CFTR mutation in Korean people, to investigate the mechanism of apoptosis in immature B lymphocytes and pancreatic beta cells. Our laboratory is equipped with patch clamp systems, fura-2 Ca2+ measurement system, Ussing chamber apparatus, and basic molecular biology facilities.
